Art and Design
At Trinity we really value the creative curriculum; we want our children to experience the awe and wonder of art. Our high-quality art and design curriculum aims to engage, inspire and challenge our children.
The teaching of art is based on three main principles: developing ideas, mastering techniques and encouraging children to take inspiration from the greats. Art is taught by passionate, enthusiastic teachers. We aim to inspire a love and appreciation of art and raise our children’s aspirations in creativity. Our children are equipped with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent, imagine and create unique works of art, craft and design.
At Trinity we encourage our children to be inspired by the work of great artists. The children have the opportunity to explore the work of a range of culturally diverse artists. We are committed to ensuring that our children know that art can be created by everyone, in a variety of ways. Our children will discover how art and design both reflect and shape our creativity, history and the world around us.
The children have the opportunity to participate in art competitions and also engage in creative workshops delivered by local artists. Art is an essential element of the curriculum as children are able to express themselves. Art promotes children’s health and well-being; it fosters creativity and gives children the freedom to fail and so nurturing resilient, positive learners.
In the early years and key stage one the children’s curiosity and enjoyment in expressive arts and design is developed. The children have lots of opportunities to explore a range of inventive materials and media. They are provided with a broad range of art and design experiences. All of these are fun, multi-sensory and engaging in order to capture the children’s interests and promote a love of art. The children’s confidence, inquisitiveness and imaginations are nurtured. Children have lots of cross- curricular opportunities to develop their drawing, painting, sculpture and collaging techniques.
In key stage two the children are provided with broad opportunities to enhance their ability to think and act like creative beings. Children will use their knowledge and understanding to inform, inspire and interpret ideas, observations and feelings. Lastly the children’s ability to select and use materials, processes and techniques skilfully and inventively will be nurtured.
